Mattress Types & Makeup

All sizes of the Birch mattress are hybrid. This means that they are made with a combination of materials, in a layered manner. Birch mattresses are known for having thick layers, resulting in a bouncy—or springy—feel. This is the kind of mattress that the user sinks into; yet there is more than adequate support, due to the number of and composition of layers.

Birch mattresses contain a pocketed coil support structure. Each coil is wrapped inside of fabric. This prevents coils from loosening and causing discomfort in later years. The thicker coils are strategically placed along the outside edges of the Birch mattress. This is where mattresses start to break down first, so this extra support around the perimeter could help the Birch mattress last longer. A layer of organic, natural wool batting, which is responsible for the breathable nature of the mattress. This translates to a cooler sleeping experience. A layer beneath the wool batting is made of Talalay latex, which helps the mattress contour to the body. Airflow is achieved through an assortment of ventilation holes in the latex layer. Note that Talalay late is third-party certified to be free of hazardous toxins and chemicals as well as being sustainably harvested. The cover of the Birch mattress is made of organic cotton, lined with natural wool and a rayon fabric that is rated as a fire barrier.

Comfort & Support

The pocketed coil structure offers abundant support for anyone who needs it. The numerous layers make the mattress bouncy. This combination makes the Birch mattress very bouncy without giving up needed skeletal support during sleep. Those who sleep on their side will find adequate support, as will back and stomach sleepers, due to the integrated coil support.

There are also many construction features that make the Birch mattress comfortable as far as bodily temperature. Latex is notorious for being very hot to sleep on. However, the Birch mattress latex layer is perforated, allowing for body heat to transfer away from the body. Birch mattresses are considered to be a number 6, medium firm mattress.
